Kaitlin & Trevor; Love at Big Meadows Reservoir
On September 1, 2024, in South Fork, Colorado, I had the honor of photographing a beautiful elopement at Big Meadows Reservoir. The day was not just about stunning landscapes; it was a celebration of a love story between Kaitlin and Trevor that had blossomed over the years.
The couple’s journey began in 2017, when they met on Instagram—a modern-day love story sparked by a shared interest. The bride, posted a pictures while participating in a shooting competition. Trevor seized the opportunity to start a conversation, and a week later, they met in person. From that moment on, they were inseparable.
As their relationship deepened, they faced significant challenges, including family losses. It was during these tough times that their bond solidified. Supporting each other through heartache revealed the strength of their love, leading them to take the significant step of buying a house together just a year later.
Fast forward to Christmas morning in 2023—a day the bride cherishes as a Christmas fanatic. While preparing for family gatherings, she excitedly opened her stocking to discover a small box nestled inside. By the time she registered what was happening, Trevor was already down on one knee, asking her to spend forever with him. It was a perfect proposal, intertwining their love story with the magic of the holiday season.
On their wedding day, the couple exchanged vows at Big Meadows, with their beloved German Shepherd as their witness. This location held special meaning for Trevor, who had visited South Fork every year as a child. When the couple spent time fishing at the reservoir together, they knew it would be the perfect backdrop for their intimate elopement.
The bride’s dress was another delightful twist in their story. Initially thinking the process would be simple, she hadn’t started shopping until a few weeks before the wedding. Encouraged by friends, she found her dream dress at David’s Bridal, sold “off-rack.” It felt serendipitous, adding to the joy of the occasion.
As they stood together, exchanging vows on their seven-year anniversary, the couple’s love radiated in the crisp mountain air. The picturesque setting of Big Meadows framed their ceremony beautifully, making every moment feel magical. Their dog, who played a special role in their day, left a sweet paw print on the certificate, symbolizing their family’s love.
As I reflect on this beautiful day, I am reminded that every love story is unique and deserves to be celebrated. If you’re considering an elopement or looking to capture your own love story, let this couple’s journey inspire you. Together, we can create something magical that reflects your unique bond.
